This week (and weekend) the fittest CrossFit athletes from around the world will converge on Madison Wisconsin for the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games. The CrossFit Open, Master’s Qualifiers, and Regionals have whittled down the 300,000+ competitors this year to a scant 39 men and 40 women in the “open” division. Needless to say, it will be an amazing battle to watch when these athletes confront the varied challenges of the CrossFit Games week.
We already know some events for the Games, but more will be released as the week progresses. The athletes in the open division may begin their competition as early as Tuesday or Wednesday and carry through all the way to Sunday. Past Games have featured everything from off road triathlons to agility sprints and lots of unique equipment, and I’m sure this year will be the same.
You can tune in to www.games.crossfit.com for a live feed of all the events plus archived footage. The archived videos are pretty useful as you can select the heat you want to watch as well as skipping a lot of the fluff (this feature may only be available via the crossfit games youtube channel).
I always find it a very inspiring competition to watch as you can be witness to what the absolute best in the world are able to do. This will be the first year since 2011 that I haven’t travelled down to the Games, but you can be certain I’m going to be cheering just as loudly watching the online footage! If there is some interest we may stream some of the events at the gym over the weekend, so stay tuned for info on that front.

TRAINING MONDAY – TUESDAY
SKILL: BARBELL ROW – 8,8,6,6,4
Stabilize your torso – no bobbing! This will be especially difficult at the 6 and 4 rep weights
This workout is meant to be quick but will start getting a bit greasy in the third round. Select your scaling so that you can keep a good pace through the combination of movements. The box jump in particular can really be a threat in this wod so don’t be afraid to drop it down a bit to keep the pace up!
Rx: 5 rounds for time of – 10 burpee box jumps (20/24) and 15 Taters (35/53)
TG: 5 burpees, 15 goblet squats
FG: Scale KB weight and Box height as needed
Comp: Burpee box jump overs and taters @ 44/70
