2018 CrossFit Games OPEN

It's that time of year - the 2018 CrossFit Games Open is right around the corner.  This is the time of year that almost 400,000 CrossFit participants worldwide test themselves against each other (and last year's self) over 5 weeks of competition.

 

It's quite an amazing experience to be involved with something that unites most Crossfitters around the globe.  Sure, we've all shared in the agony and ecstasy of "Fran" and "Jackie" but in the Open, we all do the same wods at the very same time... and then frenetically check the leaderboards to see how our scores measure up!

 

The Open is just that - open - to anyone who wants to test their fitness against five unknown workouts.  There are age divisions and scaled and rx options.  We'll be running the workouts as our usual class wods on Fridays and Saturdays, so the Open will envelop our gym.

 

Our affiliate team and top athletes will be aiming for a spot at the Regionals (the next stage in the CrossFit Games series) whereas most of us will simply be looking to put forth our best effort and have a great time doing it!

We will have two teams for the Open, Vic City GREEN and Vic City BLACK.  Please sign up under Vic City GREEN.

 

Last year, we had our biggest registration yet for the Open, with approximately 90 people signed up!  We also finished the Open in FIRST PLACE overall in Western Canada, an incredible achievement for a gym of our size.

WARM-UP:

 

 

WOD:  EMOM ROTATIONS

 

This is a great wod to work on skill development under fatigue.  Like I discussed in a recent video, EMOMs allow us to transfer higher level skills into a fatigue/wod context.  Choose a scaling level that allows you to move consistently through the rounds.

 

Rx:  7 rotations, switching on the minute between exercises (35 minutes).  30 seconds work, 30 seconds rest:

 

Ring MU/Bar MU/CTB pullups

Burpee

TTB

HSPU
DB snatch

 

FG2:  reg pullups or ring MU/Bar MU progression, scaled ROM hspu

 

FG1:  Banded pullups, Hanging knee raise, HS hold or wall walk hold
