Member of the Month - Sara Kharsa!
Photo during hike up the Sea to Sky summit in Squamish (a 5 hour hike/climb).
Sara joined our community in August this year, with her partner Ghassan, and while being a “newbie” it feels like she’s been a part of our community this whole time. She has become a staple and regular member in our 7pm Fundamental Classes, as well as Saturday mornings. She has dove right into it, taking on each class with her best effort, and learning all the new skills, while embracing what CrossFit and our gym is all about. She cheers on her classmates, she is always trying to improve each skill and focusing on one thing at a time. She asks for help and cues from her coaches, and she doesn’t give up. Her positive attitude is so great to have in class and us coaches have really enjoyed watching her come such a long way in such a short period of time! Read below to get to know her.
What is your background in Fitness/sport?
Swimming has always been my go to exercise, I also started playing tennis in 2020, stopped earlier this year due to a shoulder injury. But, I have never been that excited/invested in anything before CrossFit.
When did you start CrossFit/At Vic City?
August 2022, I’m a “newbie”.
How many CrossFit Opens have you done?
None. But, ask me again next year.
Favourite memories in the gym?
My first good/smooth box jump; one of the CFVC members saw my hesitation before jumping -I was very close to giving up and doing box step ups- they gestured from a distance “use your arms!”…and there I was: up on the box so smoothly! It is a memory that truly describes everything I love about CrossFit at CFVC.
What is your favourite movement?
Can I have more than one?
Box jump, Back squat, Shoulder press
Least favourite?
Pull-ups, a challenge I plan to overcome!
Favourite WOD or type?
AMRAPs and partner WODs.
What do you enjoy the most about CrossFit?
Most of all is the sense of belonging to this awesome community, and the satisfaction of achieving the small goals I set for myself.
Most recent achievement that you are proud of?
I was struggling with skipping when I started, could not do more than 10-15 single-unders unbroken (on my best attempts), but recently did 48 unbroken single-unders.
What goals are you working towards right now?
Improving overall conditioning, and working on pull-ups progression.
Sara, we are so happy you joined our community, and have found something that you are excited about and thrive in. You’re a great example to many, of starting a new program, and trusting the process and being patient with learning new skills. You adapt very quickly and handle each challenge the best you can. You push yourself and those around you to be the best they can be, especially during those partner workouts. It’s been fun to see your progress, and we look forward to seeing much more for years to come! Keep up the great work.
Be sure to give Sara a high five next time you see her! :)
