MOTM - Carly!

Your July Member Highlight is Carly! Carly joined our gym last fall, 2021, and has been a great addition to our community ever since. She is constantly showing up, working on her goals and doing it always with a smile on her face. She even joined us through all the outdoor sessions this past Winter! Her positive attitude rubs off on all those around her and she is always a pleasure to have in class. She is always working on something, and will ask for cues and help, and takes feedback very well. She recently took on the Van-Isle Partner competition last month with our own Oscar Bravo, and is getting ready to take on the CanWest Games this month as an individual! Be sure to wish her luck as she’s getting ready for it. Read more below to get to know her!

What is your background in Fitness/sport?

I grew up competitive figure skating and I loved the feeling of flying across the ice. I also did ballet and rec softball on the side. I can’t sit still, so I’m always up for any sport!

When did you start CrossFit/At Vic City?

I started CrossFit in 2017 in Ottawa where I was living at the time. I started at Vic City in October 2021.

How many CrossFit Opens have you done?

Two. The last two years. Wall walks are terrible!

Favourite memories in the gym?

Friday night lights at the Open was super fun, and the Van Isle Throwdown competition with other Vic City friends.

What is your favourite movement?

Double unders and pistol squats.

Least favourite?

Wall balls. Wall walks. Anything to do with walls!

Favourite WOD or type?

A chipper type WOD with gymnastics movements.

What do you enjoy the most about CrossFit?

The community. Everyone’s so positive and encouraging, it’s my happy place.

Most recent achievement that you are proud of?

Pushing myself to do CrossFit competitions. I question what I’ve gotten myself into, but it’s a great place to push yourself and I always do more than I think I can.

What goals are you working towards right now?

Cleaning the bar with full extension. When it happens, the bar feels like a feather! Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen all that often (yet).

Thank you Carly for being a standout member in our community. For being a great example to many. Always showing up, working on your goals, and trying to better yourself each time you walk in the gym. As well as for putting yourself out of your comfort zone and getting on the competition floor. This is always a great way to push ourselves past where we knew was possible, as well as to test ourselves to where we’re at physically and use it as motivation on where we want to go. So keep it up!

Thank you for always having a positive attitude and for always cheering on your fellow classmates. We are so happy you joined our community and are very excited to see you continue to crush your goals and check off more of those boxes!

Be sure to give Carly a High-Five next time you see her in the gym and to wish her luck as she gets ready for the CanWest games July 15-17th!
