Reconciliation Day WOD


Hey Team,


As most of you know now, September 30th has been designated as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day will mean different things to each individual, but in general is a day for reflection, recognition and education. We have reduced our class hours to allow for time for our members and coaches to pursue those objectives while still creating an opportunity to train and support an organization that is doing great work with Indigenous youth.


Tomorrow will be a Special Workout day. Similar to HERO WODs we have done in the gym for Holidays in the past, we will be taking on the “215 Innocent Children” Workout tomorrow.


With workouts like these, it’s meant to acknowledge those that have suffered and have gone through hardship, and in this case a very hard time for our Country and its people. This workout was created by Indigenous CrossFit athletes Roger Boyer and Kris and Kristin Sylliboy, and this is just a small part we can do to reflect on the Residential School System and in honour of those children lost and survived by it.


We will also be working with Phil Mack (Leah Mack’s brother), longtime advocate and coach for Thunder Rugby, which is a locally founded organization that promotes rugby for Aboriginal youth, hosts annual tournaments, and funds opportunities for teams to travel and experience rugby in other countries. For every person that attends class, Vic City will donate $10 to Thunder Indigenous Rugby.


This will be an emotional workout, so be ready to come in, and work hard with your fellow classmates, and if you have Orange, we encourage you to wear it for the workout.
