Member Highlight - DANI !

Dani has been with us on the Vic City Side (or the dark side haha) since the spring, and has been enthusiastic about CrossFit ever since! She came over willing to learn and push herself, and is always willing to try. She also has the most contagious energy about her, every time she’s in the class, her positivity rubs off on those around her, and you can’t but instantly smile when she walks in the door. Sadly I don’t get her in my classes as often as I’d like, but the morning crew are very lucky to have her. She is motivating, always working hard, and is always cheering on those around her. Read more below to get to know her!

What is your background in Fitness/sport?

Hmmm well I have always admired sporty people..

I did dance, tap, jazz, ballet, Ukrainian and cheerleading. I was in Swim club and still love swimming- it’s my favorite summer time activity. I also did bootcamps and running clinics. I like trail running too.

When did you start CrossFit and At Vic City?

I was minding my own business doing group classes at Just move when all of a sudden I was encouraged to try out the crossfit classes next door. I was pretty sure it would be a one time thing but that is all it took. One time and I was hooked. It was hard and scary (especially trying to put the bikes and rowers back in a row while screeching it along the floor) . I love the challenge and the constant encouragement from coaches and friends.

How many CrossFit Opens have you done?

None but maybe one day.

Favourite memories in the gym?

I have funny memories in the gym. One of the first classes I somehow got my shirt caught in between the weight on the bar and metal clip and I couldn’t get it open again so I was just stuck to the end of the bar. I had to get help to get undone.

I love the 6am class.

What is your favourite movement?

I love handstand pushups. I can do a baby one with a block underneath. It makes me feel strong. When I was pretty new I came out to a Ladies night at the gym and met a lot of great people. I remember someone telling me how strong you will feel - not only physically but in other areas of your life and it is so true. I know I can do really hard things at the gym and it gives me strength for other challenges.

Least favourite?

Well, it was running. I remember when I started I would almost cry. Poor Conner. He was so encouraging. But now I kind of like the workouts with running.

Favourite WOD or type?

I like the AMRAP although I lose count every time so usually it’s an estimate.

What do you enjoy the most about CrossFit?

I wake up and know that I am going to a place that is encouraging and challenging and never gets boring. There is so much room for growth and at the same time I can see the changes that have already taken place. Even if I really don’t want to get up- I always feel so much better after.

Most recent achievement that you are proud of?

I am proud of my consistency. I won’t quit. Even if I am last every time I am proud that I continue to try. Also, even if you are last at crossfit you get the whole gym cheering for you.

What goals are you working towards right now?

I want to do all the things! I want to do a pull up and a handstand walk- I know big goals! But why not.

What is your go to treat / meal?

I love Salted caramel ice cream and good Lebanese food anytime.
